This website was first created as a follow-up to "Albums for the Young (and Young at Heart)," a session presented by Dr. Grace Huang, NCTM, at the 2017 Georgia Music Teachers Association state conference. Since then, this session has been presented at the 2018 Texas Music Teachers Association state convention as well as various local chapters within Georgia Music Teachers Association. This site now serves as a resource for all piano teachers seeking motivating, quality repertoire of the 18th to 21st centuries written by master composers, in miniature form for students.
For centuries composers have written engaging, colorful collections named "Album for the Young," "Music for Children," "Children's Pieces," or the like, for the early to late-intermediate piano student. Schumann's Album for the Young is usually the first collection that comes to mind, and it remains popular with students today. However, there are many other collections of great pedagogical and performance value---some by well-known master composers, others by lesser known composers---that are highly worth exploring.
Whether you are searching for an exciting “new” student recital piece not typically heard in your musical community, a piece that serves as a great mini-introduction to that composer’s larger works, or an accessible yet challenging work for an adult student, you will be able to find something here.

This website will continue to be updated and revised, and repertoire will continue to be added, so please check back periodically.
